Literature Text

Every gap between my aching breaths
reminds me that you are not here to fill them.

How did I get this far on my own two feet?
By stumbling, crawling, and falling down stairs?

I've split my chin, fractured my skull, and watched ghost fingers
make countless incisions in my fragile skin.

How many times must I tear open my eyelids to realize that
you.are.not.here.
?
every. single. gap.
